The shape and construction of the Coat of Arms is of paramount importance in the development of the heraldic designs, shown here summarizes some of the predominant forms in Europe in the period from 1150 to 1550.
In the early thirteenth century was the predominant form of the shield-shaped kite.   In the fourteenth century the shape of the Coat of arms are a little longer.   In Spain and Portugal, you'll likely find more rectangular shields and curved at the base   We now show the coat of arms typical of the fifteenth century with a notch in the upper left corner represents a hole made by a spear.   Finally shows a purely decorative shield of the century XV.
