Define the distinction between genealogy and heraldry

The word comes from Genea Genealogy, in mythology, is the eldest daughter of the founders of the human race. Fenicia Lenus lived with his brother, with whom he had three sons, Fos,  Pir, and Flox where the translation would be, light, heat and flame.

Genealogy (from grigo gene, generation and logos, treaty), is the science that studies the descent of a person on the bottom branches of the family tree.

Heraldry is the science that studies and establishes the rules for the correct interpretation of the crests or coats of arms.


The surname

The surname is the family name that distinguishes the individual.

It was in Rome, where grew the use of the surnames. Prior to the Roman distinction was by name and  nickname. For example those who had red hair, was designated as the "Red", people who had a physical defect, were known by the same, "The Blind", etc..

It was in Rome where he began as a habit, add his own name, the family that the person belonged.
(And Pronomen Cognome). As an example, Lucio (proper name) is added to belonging to the family (Vero), composing name: Lucius Verus

In the early Middle Ages the custom of using the family name (surname), which started in Rome spread throughout Europe

It began using the name by feudal nobles to add your name to the appropriate people who had conquered or where reguian.

The class used as a surname the name of the town where born, or sometimes the name of the office exercising. Many surnames were originally the nicknames or aliases.

Some names were taken from the name of the parents as an example we name Hernandez (son of Hernando) or Gonzalez (son of Gonzalo).

The armorial bearings of the surnames

Some authors argue that the use of coats of arms to represent the family name dates back to centuries before Christ, arguing that Greeks
and Romans made use of shields and other authors argue that the beginning of their employment is the time of the Crusades and the tournaments.

By the fifteenth century, the heraldic acquired its own rules as well as a special language to describe, as accurately, without the help of the figures, the most complicated armories. In the beginning, heraldry was limited to a heraldic art professionals, but by the seventeenth century, heraldry has ido conformity between the auxiliary sciences of history.
