Gonzalez is aname of so-called patronimic name is said to derive from a proper name, in this case the name Gonzalo, for this reason not all have a common origin. This name was very common during the Middle Ages.

There is no agreement of more primitive origin of the surname Gonzalez because historians do not agree, some claim that the origin is the mountains of Leon, for others in Asturias and others believe that the origin is Huesca.

There have argued that the name comes from Fernando Gonzalez Black who was a relative of Carlo Magno, Ferdinand Black was lord of the town of Jivara in Santander, this gentleman accompanied Pelayo in numerous battles during the conquest as it was one of the nobles sworn in Covadonga.
